Well, I think that the hardest thing is to propose in front of a woman and get her "yes" or "no" in your face.
If he had gotten a "no" he would simply not show up. And with a "yes" in the bag like he got I guess any guy would feel confortable to show up in front of anybody.
Now, if he had proposed to her really in front of everybody risking getting a "no" that would require "big balls".
