  • Jet Airways buys 20 Boeing 737-800s

MUMBAI, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Jet Airways India Ltd (JET.BO: Quote, Profile, Research), the country's top private airline, said on Friday it had purchased 20 Boeing (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) 737-800 aircraft with an option for 10 more.

The 20 aircrafts will be delivered between October 2012 and December 2014, with the additional 10 having delivery positions between August 2013 and February 2015, it said in a statement.

The 20 aircrafts have a current book value of $1.4-$1.6 billion, the Boeing Web site showed.

The new aircraft will replace older and leased planes, and will "maintain and expand the company's international and domestic operations", it said.

Glad to hear most airlines are doing pretty good these days! Let's hope it stays the same for awhile.

9W will be using these to expand its domestic service and its regional int'l service as well, including flights to/from BKK etc.

Sounds like a good deal as the airline's location would make it ideal to run this aircraft on a number of international routes, in addition to domestic.

Nice to see it growing, although their EWR - BRU fares suck!

Good to hear 9W ordering 738s. It reinforces the fact that the 737 series is a world beater.
