  • Monarch A300-603R

my son is flying to Malaga with Monarch on Saturday. They only have Airbus planes. I think they use the A300-603R for these journeys, I think they might be quite old. Where can I get more information about the A300-603R please? What does the R stand for, I wonder, and what does the 603 mean? There are 960 photies of 605Rs on ADC and I wonder what the difference is. Whoo. Boy.

They have no leg room, you have to sit with your knees in your mouth, someone told me.

Where are they flying from? Monarch have 4 AB6's MAJS,MONR,MONS,OJMR. Each is in a 361Y config with 3-3-3 but near the back it goes to a 2-3-2 config. They are actually A300-605R, the 605 is broken down to the 600 series of the A300, like the A320-200. the 05 is engine choice, Monarch have fitted GE CF6's to theirs and the R is there as its a extended range model.

As for legroom you could always pay for extra logroom if you want it, I felw one a few years ago a in 6'4'' and I survived!

    Thanks
    Ben Leonard

    P.s. Monarch do have 3 752's left NJ,JB,NK

      still puzzled

Many thanks for your response Mr leonard320, but I'm still confused. These are A300 model aircraft, yes? They are not A320s, which are different size and design? The 600 means its an A300 series 600, and the 5 means it has GECF6 engines, have I got that right? Are these aircraft old or middle-aged, perhaps?

Logically, if I've understood correctly, the Boeing 752 means its a 757 with a 2 something or other, engine perhaps, or some other important identifying feature?

Airbus and Boein ID their aircraft differently,
Boeing have an aircraft type i.e B757-200 but the last two numbers/letters are different for each operator
        I.E
757-200 originally operated by BA is a 757-2'36'
737-800 orginially operated by FR is a 737-8'AS'

As far as Monarch A300 go they are between 15 and 20 years old, so they may be a little rickety I dont know.

        All the best

        Ryan

Far as I'm aware, 752 means 757-200, the 2 does not mean anything to do with an engine type, for example 738 is 737-800, 772 is 777-200 and so on

752 is the generic, if you go for the proper method, its say for monarch 757-2T7. in this it's a 757-200, and the T7 is the boeing order code.

With Airbus a A340-642 (VS) is a A340-600 series aircraft, and the 42 stands for 4 the engine choice (4 is rolls royce) and 2 is the 2nd version of the engine.

To summerise Boeing use customer numbers and Airbus engine options.

Jingogunner, correct spot on! The only Malaga flight on saturday is currently schduled to be operated by G-MONR, this could change if so it was built in 1989, Cn 540.

            Many Thanks
            Ben Leonard

              Somewhat redundant isn't it? I haven't heard of a 2 engined A340 - that would be an A330.

I think he clearly means its the second production version of an engine, Mr SYDCBRWOD.
