Was Varig behind on the lease payments?
And has a 777 also been seized?

Golly, that must be an embarrasment for the airline.

Yeah, the lessor is risking his investment by leasing so he has every right to seize the aircraft. Of course the airline has the obligation to pay the lessor.

          Hi,
Wouldn't Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection be an alternative to Varig's aircraft being siezed, at least this way they will be restructured by people outside the company who don't care so much about the airline in hand but the job they are doing. Maybe this way Varig will get some good results.

          Thanks

Chapter 11 is for the US though. Things might be different in Brazil.

Yeah, Varig has been over due on it's payments.....
And they will merge with TAM, like Avianca, Sam and Aces did last year....looks like it's the only way to survive in those Latin Countries, where chapter 11 DO NOT apply (at last not in Colombia, don't know in Brazil)
