I think it was originally CF-TLL(del 07-07-67) and when they repainted it in the delivery colours prior to the donation they re-registered it with the original letters. Canadian aircraft were all CF-XXX until the mid 70s or so when they started to run out of possible combos, so those that were CF-XXX became C-FXXX, and the C-GXXX series also was started. Many years ago, Cdn aircraft were registered G-CXXX to reflect Canada's relationship with Great Britain.

I was home the day that the above plane arrived at Ottawa after a short ferry flight from Dorval. It overflew Orleans twice, the first a true noisy flybay at about 1000 feet, the second its final landing approach, before landing on the 3300 foot runway at Rockcliffe Airport, home of the Museum.

Also at the museum is a Vickers Viscount that was donated by Air Canada (or maybe TCA) still in its TCA 1955 colours, and the RCAF donated a Canadair North Star(a DC4 with RR Merlins) about 1965. Although not an airline, deHavilland donated the Dash-7 demonstrator about 15 years ago. It is criminal all these valuable artifacts have been left exposed to the elements, and are in very rough shape. Hopefully the recently announced Museum Building expansion will put all these under a roof.

Air Canada also donated a Viscount to the Western Canadian Aviation Collection in Winnipeg (hope I got that right) but this one is in AC colours.

With one of my latest AIP updates TC sent a letter saying that only aircraft built prior to 1952 could display a CF-XXX registration, and were designated "Historical Aircraft". Many aircraft were built after 1952 also with the CF-XXX reg, however if these are ever re-painted the reg. must be changed to C-FXXX

                          - Saudi Arabian Airlines donated their DC-6 HZ-ADA to Yemen Airways in 1971, became 4W-ABQ

                          - United donated DC-8-21 N8003U to Project Orbis in 1980, later became N220RB, is now in the Datang-shan museum near Beijing

                          - the Australian government donated Fokker 27 PH-FEY to Bangladesh Biman as S2-ABL in May 1973

                          - the Herald at Duxford, G-APWJ, was donated to the museum by Air UK in 1985

                          - same for the Trident at Duxford; G-AVFB was donated by BA in 1982

                          - the Save-a-Connie Inc. L.1049H N6937C was donated to the trust by a private individual in 1986; is now at Kansas City-Downtown in basic TWA c/s, belived to be airworthy

                          - Air Nippon donated YS.11 JA8732 to the authorities of Saitama, Japan, who have put it up on display at Tokorozawa

                          - Airborne Express donated Caravelle 6R N901MW to Ohio History of Flight Inc., is now on display at Columbus, OH

                          - Aeroflot donated Tu.154B-2 CCCP-85544 to Malev as HA-LCV in 1988

                          - one of the most famous of them all was Merchantman G-APEP, which was donated by Hunting Cargo to the Brooklands museum, and arrived there in what was the very last flight of a Vanguard ever on 17 Oct 1996.

                          - the Ruler of Oman, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, donated his personal transport, VC-10 A4O-AB, to the Brooklands museum in 1987; is now in display there still in Omani c/s

                          - Cambrian Airways donated Viscount G-AMOG to the RAF Museum at Cosford in 1976; is now on display in full BEA c/s

                          - Air Canada donated Viscount CF-THI to the National Aviation Museum at Ottawa in 1969, should still be there in Trans Canada A/L c/s

I believe the list is endless, that's just what I found around the corner.

                          Regards,
                          Peter
