  • Air Tahoma CV-580 Crash... 3 dead

The pilot of the Air Tahoma flight knew he had problems minutes after takeoff from Rickenbacker Airport today. A few miles southwest of the airport, he radioed back to say that he had to turn the cargo plane around, but that there was no need to have emergency crews there, Pickaway County Sheriff Dwight Radcliff said of the pilot's radio traffic.

But it didn't appear that the plane had a chance, said Chrissy Cauger, who was driving nearby as it crashed.

"It didn't look like they were turning around at all," she said. "The plane was flying really low, and then all I saw was fire and smoke."

Very sad to hear, my condolences to their families. I know they had a crash within a few years of this one, but can't recall the location. Does anyone remember?

Crashes that scare me the most are when the pilots identify the problem that will ultimately lead to the accident, which means the crew sees their fate unfolding right before their eyes rather than a sudden unexpected catastrophe.
