  • 2nd crash of the day: Neptune Aviation P2V tanker crashes in Reno, all 3 crew dead

RENO, Nev. - An air tanker hoping to drop retardant on a wildfire in the Sierra Nevada crashed on takeoff near Reno on Monday, killing all three crew members on board.

The twin-engine P2V air tanker owned by Neptune Aviation of Missoula, Mont., had been fighting a wildfire earlier in the day that had forced evacuations over the weekend in California's Alpine County near Hope Valley south of Lake Tahoe, Reno fire spokesman Steve Frady said Monday night.

These past few weeks have been full of diasater after disaster. Even fatal general aviation accidents are happening in rapid sucession, I hope things shape up soon.

RIP to the crew, and best wishes to those they leave behind.

It really hit home for not just because of the location but because I just saw that plane fly right over my house a few hours earlier

I couldn't even tell what it was when I first saw the wreckage. RIP

Word is from several people the wing or engine started disentergrating inmid-air.
Hope it wasn't like this, thats gotta be scary waitin on the drop, knowing there nothing your skills can do to avoid it and t's not even ur fault.

The weirdest thing for me was that I was going to head up and take some shots of that plane around that time but didn't feel too well and decided to stay home and rest up for the races
