  • FAA requires 737 inspection on the elevator tab control mechanism

about one week ago, the local news said the FAA required 737 operators to inspect the elevator tab control mechanism.
    How about the progress?
    Any further info?
    Thanks in advance!

Stems from a Ryanair incident with major vibe from the elevator. Checking lugs. Aircraft built within the same time frame as the Ryanair aircraft are given a 12 day deadline for the inspection, others are on a 30 day deadline.

    Full FAA AD HERE

          The FAA is
          1Y0-722
superseding an existing airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to all The Boeing Company Model 737-600, -700, -700C, -800, -900, and -900ER series airplanes. The existing AD currently requires doing a detailed inspection of the inboard and outboard aft attach lugs
          1Y0-731
of the left and right elevator control tab mechanisms for gaps between the swage ring and the aft attach lug, and between the spacer and the aft attach lug; trying to move or rotate the spacer using hand pressure; and replacing any discrepant elevator tab
          1Y0-962
control mechanism, including performing the detailed inspection on the replacement part before and after installation.

Because the NG series has a different Horizontal Stab/Elevator design from the Classic and Jurassic Classic.

They have been in the air for about 10 years but that does not mean issues with the design cannot be found. So this sort of thing is pretty normal.
There were problems with the initial design there were not enough hinge points which resulted in some vibration, a modification was done to strengthen them.
