The Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport on Friday, November 24, 2017 managed a total of 969 take-offs and landings in 24 hours, bettering its own record of 935, a spokesperson stated.
The feat was recorded between the 5.30 AM on Friday and 5.30 AM on Saturday.
The Mumbai airport has two runways, but at a time, only one of it functions since they intersect each other. Thus this puts Mumbai in the single runway category, with other cities like London, Istanbul and major airports of smaller cities like San Diego, Fukuoka and Xiamen.
Mumbai airport handles over 900 flights every day, making it one of the busiest airports in the world. The runway has a declared capacity to handle 46 take-offs and departure in an hour.
