  • Pushing the boundaries of photography

Every now and then there comes along a photo that says "Wow! I wish that I took that photo." If there was an award category for "boundary pushing" then I would wish to nominate this photo.

Somehow the Peoples Choice is not enough.

    How did he do that?

It is indeed stunning. Long exposure then the flash fired, probably an external one as I doubt a built in could do the trick.

Someone will probably know, would it fire at the end like that when set to 2nd curtain sync?

The landing lights reflected in the cowls.

Offtopic. How come the photo itself is misaligned on that link (not centered) ?

How is this done? I saw a photo like it on a.net a while back.

Yeah, 2nd curtain snyc fires the flash at the end of the exposure. Rather handy for effects like this.

Beats me how this shot didn't get a screeners' choice.

Pushes the boundaries of aviation photography is the better explanation.

I am just pumped that someone thought outside the box on aviation photographer. For those who shoot outside the box, more power to you.

On my screen it looks like it could use more contrast (a bit hazy)

Oh some people are never happy

You may as well say he should have white balanced on the approach lights as well.

I think the haze was caused by the aircraft lights. Still all in all it's a different picture and gives us all something to aspire to do better.

Well, why don't you go out to the airport and show us how to do it?

Some people need to get a life!

Don't take this as personal, but one reason I'm not so keen on uploading my pics is that for the amount of rejections I get, it's not worth the hassle!

I'm glad boundaries are being pushed higher, and such sites help people think beyond the normal sideview with good light, but at the same time, let's not forget from where it all began.. people who enjoy taking photos of planes and sharing them!
