A very close closeup of my eye. I've been trying to get shots like this
and this but can't for the life of me figure out how he does it - perhaps
someone with an understanding of the structure of the eye could shed light...
Did you use a flash, and did you use red eye reduction? The photos you linked to have small pupils which are
indicative of looking into a bright object (flash).The flash would also red out the eye. Add in some editing to
finish it of. Just a guess though, so I might be way off.

I used the flash but no red eye reduction. The flash was at quite an oblique angle, and I was working indoors at night - as such, the background light was quite dim and my pupils were rather open. I'm going to try working outdoors on a sunny day so that my pupils are already contracted, have the flash located directly in front of me and have the camera at more of an angle.
