    They can certainly be accepted, if done properly. Cutting the aircraft right in the middle through the main gear usually isn't considered proper, as there is no reason for such a crop.

    Crop is tighter, but still soft, poorly centered, and incorrect ratio would mean automatic rejection

    Wheat... my suggestion is that you check the material in the link below. But the short answer is halos appear when you over-edit or use for example the Auto button in Lightroom. Just use the curves tool in LR or PS and you should be OK.
