I quite like the 2-4-2 in economy, the AIRBUS way. No more than one seat from an aisle but on an empty flight the middle row is long enough to fold up the armrests and make a bed.

I have once travelled in a 777 with 3-4-3 configuration. But I don't think the seat is tiny. Maybe at that time I was still small.
