QANTAS 2nd mid-air decompression: 738 door pop open in flight
Major non-event. Gear Disagree EICAS, non-normal checklist carried out, aircraft returned to the departure airport.
We can't cough at the moment without the media finding someone who thought they were going to die.
I agree AJ. The media just cant get enough of this stuff. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Having said that, IMHO the maintenance history of the cylinder should be looked at very closely. Perhaps it was a one off defect that slipped through the cracks (no pun intended) after all, every serialised component, and o2 cylinder is serialised, can be tracked throughout its entire history. e.g. "crew oxy cylinder removed for xxxx hour check. S/N off 001 S/N on 002.
