I believe that the media is being responsible in alerting the public about terrorism (or the lack thereof) in every crash. Doing so causes the public not to worry and reduces a sense of panic.
Remember the plot to blow up several London-US flights a couple of years back? Plots like that still linger in the minds of some people, and if a plane goes down people want to know right away if the flight that they will board in an hour or so will be safe.
Also, if terrorism can not be ruled out and is indeed a factor in a crash, timely reporting of the threat can help pax on potential future affected flights react
(ie United 93).
