I believe that the media is being responsible in alerting the public about terrorism (or the lack thereof) in every crash. Doing so causes the public not to worry and reduces a sense of panic.

Remember the plot to blow up several London-US flights a couple of years back? Plots like that still linger in the minds of some people, and if a plane goes down people want to know right away if the flight that they will board in an hour or so will be safe.

Also, if terrorism can not be ruled out and is indeed a factor in a crash, timely reporting of the threat can help pax on potential future affected flights react
    (ie United 93).
Fly Raleigh-Durham International, with direct flights on Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, American Eagle, America West, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Delta Airlines, Delta Connection, jetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Express and US Airways to:

ATL, AUS, BWI, BOS, CHS, CLT, MDW, ORD, CVG, CLE, DFW, DTW, FLL, BDL, HOU, IND, LAS, LAX, LGW, MEM, MIA, MSP, BNA, EWR, MSY, JFK, LGA, ORF, MCO, PHL, PHX, PIT, STL, SLC, TPA, YYZ, DCA and IAD.

No offense but I'm entitled to my opinion right?

I just think that people are still taking it over the edge (no pun intended) with the 9/11 stuff. I think it's good that people are being aware of what's going on, but to the extent of freaking out over every little crash (overruns, etc as Jordan mentioned), that's just nonsense.

I'd much rather see a "a leaky fuel line is thought to be at fault" or "a wet runway with inadequate braking may have been the problem" NOT "today in other news it's believed that an a-rab punctured a fuel line in TWA Flight 800 leading to it's explosion while departing NYC" or "because the terrorists caused global warming, it rained outside today and a Cessna 172 (also with a punctured fuel line because Osama's right hand man did the maintenance work) skidded off the runway at some po-dunk airport in Kentucky"

Lets be realistic here...9/11 was 7 years ago. Now I don't want to say GET OVER IT because that's hard for people to here, but come on now, he happened 7 years ago. It's time to stop being afraid of air travel, get out of the bomb shelter, and lets fix the problems in this country like oil and high prices of everything.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but thankfully you aren't the one making the decisions.

The first WTC bombing was in 1993. Eight years later came 9/11. Seven years doesn't mean shit, the terrorists will wait. It has been proven time and time again that terrorists love airliners. Even after 9/11 they were targeting flights, as is evident by the botched UK-US attacks. Terrorism will always be a fact of life in commercial aviation.

I agreed with Crism because all we hear on newscasts now is "terrorism this and terrorism that". I work in aviation and daily we get "Homeland Security" updates. From what I see Homeland Security manipulates information and keeps the U.S. and its neighbours in a sense of "panic" in order to maintain their mandate and their funding.

Do we have to be vigilant? Absolutely, however as a democratic and free people we have to realize there are people within our governments that are working hard to control what we hear, what we do and what we think about others on this planet. It doesn't matter if you are a Socialist, a Communist or a Democratic country. Governments do what's best for them, not always what's best for the people.

One thing that's missing from this discussion is the fact that terrorism, as related to this crash, needs to be looked in a context of Russia and not U.S. Russia has now two unpopular wars and history of terrorism on its soil: theater, school, couple of appartment buildings, etc. So although, 9/11 was seven years ago and first WTC bombing fourteen, it doesn't mean anything as far as this discussion is concerned. Threat of terrorism is alive in Russia and hence it was addressed early on by the investigators. On a side note, they obviously don't have all the facts yet and terrorism disclaimer is mainly to prevent panic and is not supported by facts.

I agree. I know the threat is there, and terrorists will likely target the airlines again, no doubt(Though I don't think we'll see anothing 9/11 style hijacking). While we should always be cautious, we shouldn't be scared. Thats exactally what they want.

Exactly. Which is why the 2 aircraft blown up in Russia on 28/8/04 are more relevant than anything that happend on 11/9/01.

Some of those who lost their family or friends on 9/11/01 will never be "over it." And we all need to be OK with that. Journalists always comment on whether terrorism was involved, because that is the first question that comes to mind in their viewers.

A lot of you guys were probably 8 to 10 years old on 9/11. Of course you'll get over it faster - if it ever even really bothered you.

Looks like somebody wasn't supposed to be flying.

Perm Crash Pilots Used Fake Papers
31 October 2008The pilots of the Aeroflot-Nord jetliner that crashed during its approach to the Perm airport last month gave false information about their qualifications to fly, a top aviation safety investigator said Thursday.

The damning comments by Gennady Kurzenkov, head of the State Aviation Inspection Service, appeared to confirm suspicion that pilot error was to blame for the Sept. 14 crash, which killed all 88 people on board.

Kurzenkov said the pilots of the Boeing 737 had submitted false documents to the airline showing that they had passed preflight courses, Itar-Tass reported. He did not elaborate.

The flight attendants also had false documents saying they were qualified to fly on international flights, he said. The Aeroflot-Nord flight was a domestic flight from Moscow to Perm.
