Some months ago, I uploaded a photo of a ULM replica of a P-51 Mustang as "Warbird", but it was rejected for "Bad info" with the screener saying that it did not apply for "Warbird" category.
The airplane in question was a Loehle 5151 Mustang, registration I-5151: https://www.jetphotos.com/registration/I-5151
Some days ago I uploaded photos of WW1 ULM replicas flown by Pterodactyl Flight at Poznan Air Show 2018. Remembering my previous rejection, I did not upload them as "Warbird", explaining my motives in the screener comments.
However, today I discovered that upload guidelines say:
Warbird / Vintage
This category is to be selected for old planes (anything that was not built after 1970, or where the production started before 1970), planes that are no longer in regular service and planes in museums. Also, replicas of vintage aircraft need the "vintage" category.
Now I'm a bit confused... does this mean that only replicas which are visibly scaled down (as in the case of the Loehle Mustang and the other WW1 replicas I have in the queue) do not need the "Warbird" category, while full-scale replicas do?

Correct. A full scale replica is indeed still a warbird/vintage. Scalled down not since the are completly new aircraft and just look a likes of historic aircraft.
