  • ASDE-X saves the day.

Airport Surface Detection System — Model X (ASDE-X) is a surveillance system using radar, multilateration and satellite technology that allows air traffic controllers to track surface movement of aircraft and vehicles. It was developed to help reduce critical Category A and B runway incursions.

Human error hasn't changed, but the safeguards are stronger today. This was an E190 at 30ft above the runway, in the flare. not colliding with a bizjet that had entered the runway at that moment without authorization.

“they had heard a clearance that seems to be Line Up and Wait." He further stated that “he probably responded to the clearance, but in his mind, they were cleared for takeoff.”

    Disconcur!

According to your link, a couple Mark IV passive 400-700 nm radars detected the incursion…

But, per normal Evan procedures, we can’t give the pilots any credit- AUTOMATION saved the day.

I saw a comment that the stupid Bizjet pilots blew an imaginary takeoff clearance, but in fact were instructed to line up and wait…that makes things interesting.

    AND

Someone shoulda checked the approach path more betterer.

Ok, the headline of the thread MIGHT be a bit of an exaggeration THIS TIME.

But run this scenario in limited RVR....

I'm not hating that added slice of Swiss.

The loose cannon bizjet pilots had some difficulty in understanding Line Up And WAIT. This will happen. Humans.

The vigilant E-190 pilots saw them rolling and called the go-around. This won't always happen. Humans.
