African Express MD82 at Malakal on Feb 9th 2024, touched down short of runway

An African Express Airways McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration 5Y-AXL performing a flight from Juba to Malakal (South Sudan), touched down short of runway 04 and suffered the collapse of the main gear. The aircraft came to a stop on the runway on nose gear and belly of fuselage and was disabled. The aircraft was evacuated. There are no reports of injuries.

Malakal's Acting Governor reported the aircraft had been contracted by the national government to carry returnees from Sudan to South Sudan, the aircraft had been carrying 300 returnees per day in two daily flights in the last two weeks. The aircraft landed in a rough way in Malakal on Feb 9th 2024, all people are safe.
