My apologies... I should have pointed out that the second pic was a different one, a couple of frames earlier in the sequence.
Do you think the 'borderline soft' issue is with the lens, with my technique or in post processing? I can keep bumping up the sharpness in LR, but it eventually of course it will cross into 'oversharpened' territory.

Thank you - good advice.
Can I get an opinion on this A321, specifically because I've used a different processing method where Nikon's proprietary software retains the 'in camera' settings, which I have set quote strong (but cannot be read by LR), and can export the image as a TIFF which enables minor tweaks in LR.
